YOu Don't Want A Newfie

Do You Really Want A Newfie?

I love Newfoundland dogs, and I believe that every Newf deserves to live in a home where he is loved and wanted, and where everyone in his family is happy to have him around.

Sadly, that's not always the case. Some Newfie pups wind up in households that really aren't suited for them. Some of these dogs are ignored or neglected, others get bounced around from one home to another as a parade of new owners realize that a Newf is more than they could handle.

That shouldn't happen to a dog.

So, please forgive me if I take a couple of minutes and try to talk you out of getting a Newfie. If you really want a Newfoundland, know what you're getting into, and are prepared to handle the challenges involved, everything I say will be old hat. But if, after reading this section, you decide that maybe you don't want a Newf after all, don't despair: there are plenty of other wonderful dogs out there that won't put such a crimp in your lifestyle. Whether it's a purebred or a mutt from the pound, the right dog will be the best friend you can have.

Newfies are sweet and dependable companions, but they are not for everyone. Caring for a Newf is a lot of work, and it's expensive. They'll mess up your house. They need intensive training. They are not for the casual or uninvolved dog owner.

If you are contemplating getting your first Newfoundland dog, think things through carefully: having a giant dog in your home will change your life.

Make sure that's what you want... the dogs deserve it.
